Course Description

AutoCAD is a powerful programme which allows designers and architects to create 2D computer aided designs. This course is intended to familiarise students with the different 2D tools available and to teach them the foundations of the software. 

Syllabus

Topic 1

• Understanding the coordinate system and general interface 

• Viewing and Navigating- zoom, pan, selection methods

• Drawing Basic Objects- Rectangle, lines, polylines, circles, arcs polygon

• Modifying - osnap, move, erase, offset, mirror

Topic 2

• Editing objects- trim, fillet, chamfer, drawing circles in osnap

• Text, polar tracking, centering between midpoints, divide, array

• hatching and hatching activity 

• Making custom title block 

Topic 3

• setting up and adding dimensions 

• match properties, scale, stretch 

• Understanding and identifying model space and paper space 

• activating view ports 

• Line types, scaling linetypes in viewport 

Topic 4

• Furniture library and making blocks 

• living room furniture layout plan 

• master bedroom furniture layout plan 

• formal living and dining room layout plan 

• children's bedroom furniture layout plan 

• apartment furniture layout plan 

Requirements

None, however basic computer literacy is required.

Materials

Laptop with 4GB RAM & wheel mouse.

Internship & Work Opportunities

The Designers’ Studio runs an active Internship Programme whereby we collaborate with several interior design companies and showrooms such as Pottery Barn, Ethan Allen, Crate and Barrel to name a few. The end goal of our training is to secure work in the industry for our graduates and we actively facilitate this. Work shadowing is organised for top students during holiday breaks. Great care is taken to match the student's aspirations and abilities with a suitable practice.

• October 10th- 31, 9am-1pm - every Thursday for 4 weeks (TDS Office)

• November 3rd- 24, 9am-1pm - every Sunday for 4 weeks (TDS Office)

• November 4th- 25, 9am-1pm - every Monday for 4 weeks (Abu Dhabi)

• November 9th- December 7th (ex Nov 30th), 9am-1pm - every Saturday for 4 weeks (TDS Office)

Our Main Teachers

Anam Clarke, founder of The Designers’ Studio, has in excess of 10 years of interior design experience, 9 of those in the Middle East including running her own practice. Born and raised in London, her grandfather and mother were both architects and designers. Her passion for art, architecture and design was rooted in her from the very start. She developed her passion and studied Architectural Interior Design at the prestigious Inchbald School of Design in Chelsea. She worked with the royals at David Linley Interiors during her career in London and moved to Dubai 9 years ago. Her portfolio includes Residential, Commercial, Hospitality and Food and Beverage projects all over the world. She has won awards for her design work and has been featured in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Inside out, Grazia, Better Homes, Gulf News to name but a few. She speaks annually at the Index exhibition in the UAE and writes a column for ‘Emirates Home’ regularly. Anam is extremely passionate about design, sharing her open minded, out of the box approach to design with her students. Anam is particularly well-versed in programmes such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp and V-Ray and she looks forward to sharing her tricks of the trade with her students.
